After reading online, I see that having a Jewish cat is apparently, a thing. At least the speculative question part of it. I probably wonder a little too much about what my cat is thinking, as many people do. I’m sure her thoughts are centered around typical cat stuff, but also … I think she thinks about some Jewish cat stuff too. Here’s a cute article I found on the topic that includes some very interesting historical facts on the subject: Cats: 8 Jewish Facts | Aish
On Shabbat, as I prepare to make challah, babka, or whatever I’m doing in the hours before lighting the candles, Luna follows me around contributing–by opening and entering cabinets and getting in the way, mostly. She eats challah and babka and will sit close and stare wide-eyed into your face until she gets some. And she knows about the candles. Unfortunately, she singed the end of her tail on the flame once after being a bit too curious. Don’t worry, it didn’t hurt her at all … she didn’t even know it was happening, and I was able to put it out before she noticed.
Luna loves me so much and works to make sure that all of my clothing has her fur on it, thus showcasing it for the world to see (and helping the lint roller industry stay afloat). She contributed to decorating the house by adding deep claw marks to the walls when she was a kitten–possibly a pop art thing. When I work on music, she practices her background vocals because she somehow knows when the mic is on. And if I remove her from the studio, she will claw and cry at the door, non-stop, as loudly as possible, insistent about her contribution efforts. We do have a two other cats, in fact, all of them are rescues, including Luna. And she has worked to make them feel semi-welcome as long as they know that she is the boss and the ONLY one allowed to sleep in the bed with us.

But in all seriousness, our cats are whatever we are and adapt to that particular lifestyle. They love us and treat us how we treat them in return (there are exceptions to this … my husband is so sweet to my cat and she terrorizes him. We think it’s jealousy). They are an invaluable comfort in times of sadness and stress, and a continuous companion when no one else is around. Well, mine is kind of like a stalker. She’s sitting here right now. I can’t even go to the bathroom without turning to see her watching me, and I can almost hear the horror music playing in the background …
Cats are good luck. They are incredible creatures with distinct personalities. I couldn’t imagine my life without them.
